Needlelace Masterclass with Amy Burt

This masterclass is particularly well suited to C&D students considering Stumpwork, as well as students who are interested in needlelace as a standalone technique. The course would be delivered over three sessions, each lasting three hours. Students will work through a series of technical samples, allowing them to focus entirely on technique, structure and control rather than producing a finished design. The masterclass focuses on technique over design and builds skills progressively across the three weeks. Week one focuses on foundational needlelace structures, including single Brussels stitch, double and triple Brussels stitch, and corded Brussels stitch. Week two develops these skills further and introduces up and down buttonhole, tulle stitch, and triple knotted buttonhole. Students will explore how these stitches affect density, strength and flexibility within needlelace structures. Week three focuses on detached and wired needlelace. Students will work using their own choice of stitch
combinations, allowing them to apply techniques learned in previous weeks while developing confidence in shaping, wiring and creating independent needlelace elements suitable for raised and dimensional embroidery.
