RSN Exclusive Myrtle Blossom by Nicola Jarvis

This beautiful project was designed for a crewelwork master class to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Royal School of Needlework in 2022.  'Myrtle Blossom' is inspired by a watercolour of a myrtle branch held in the school's archive, and painted by artist Mary Gemmell who worked as a designer for the school in the 1870s.  Worked in crewel wools, cotton and metallic threads on a colour printed linen ground, the range of crewel techniques includes Long and Short Stitch, Couching, Whipped Back Stitch, Chain Stitch and French Knots.

Nicola is widely known in the global stitching community for her beautiful embroidery kit projects. She operates her art practice, embroidery design and teaching business from her studio space on the outskirts of Royal Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, England.

Celebrating thirty years of teaching hand embroidery, Nicola trained at the Royal School of Needlework and spent ten years working in the British fashion industry as a sample embroiderer.
