Silk and Metal Thread Swallow Embroidery Kit

£65.00

The Swallow is always a joy to see as it brings the promise of longer days and warm weather.

An extremely agile bird that spends most of its time performing great aerial feats as it catches insects on the wing. It has a distinctive forked tail and inky blue body with a rusty red head.

The Swallow embroidery combines several embroidery stitches and metal work techniques with a selection of beautiful threads in fine metal, cotton and silk.

The threads in Metal work embroidery are held on the surface of the fabric by a sewing thread, and depending on the type of metal it is either stitched over or through, like a bead. The application and finish of each thread creates a different texture to suit the style of the design whether it be smooth and shiny or layered and sculptural.

Learn how to master stitches including brick couching, shaded burden stitch, applying silk purls, applying silk plate, couching cords, and cutwork.

Once the embroidery is complete learn best practices for preserving and presenting your finished embroidery as well as instructions on mounting for display.

Clear illustrated step by step instructions as well as photographic images will guide you through this hand embroidery project from start to finish.

All the kits are designed by Becky Hogg Embroidery and produced by hand in the U.K.

All the materials are carefully packaged in 100% recyclable bags and come in a decorative brown card gift box (24×16.5cm).

The finished embroidery measures approximately 9x9cm.

Kit includes – Wooden hoop, linen, cotton backing fabric, silk fabric, cotton sewing threads, perle cotton, silk covered metal threads, metal purl thread, metallic passing threads, needles, illustrated instruction booklet and beeswax, all packaged in a stylish hand screen printed gift box to keep everything safe.

About Becky Hogg

"My interest in Embroidery was ignited in my early 20’s, after completing my textile degree at Loughborough Art college. With a passion to further my knowledge of historical textiles and embroidery I embarked upon a 3 year apprenticeship at the Royal School of Needlework , Hampton Court Palace.
The practical skills and proffesional practice acquired during my studies covered all aspects of hand embroidery, and now form an important of my work today.

Working for over 20 years as a professional hand embroiderer I now specialise in metal thread embroidery (Goldwork). The textures, jewellery like finish and the good old fashioned sparkle hold endless inspiration for me as an embroidery designer."
