SS25HCP17 An Italian Sampler NEW

£656.00
This class is part of the RSN International Summer School 2025
From the islands of Sicily and Sardinia to the regions of Umbria and Tuscany, five different counted embroidery techniques will be taught to produce an Italian sampler.
Starting with Assisi embroidery where only the background is stitched, with the motifs outlined with Holbein stitch. The second technique will be Punt ‘e Nù or “knotted stitches” from Sardinia. This will be followed by the 3-dimensional embroidery from Casalguidi, with its “Casalguidi stitch” band, wrapped vines, woven and buttonhole bands and Bullion Knot fruits on an embroidered
background. Next is Punto Perugino with its rows of Satin stitch before finishing with the technique of Sfilato Siciliano (Sicilian drawnwork) where the design is woven into a grid formed by the removal of some of the fabric threads.
Although traditionally many of these techniques were stitched with white threads on a white background, coloured threads will be used on a Raw linen fabric to give it a modern twist.
The class kit includes 2 pieces of linen, one for your sampler and a second piece for practicing the stitches.
Some previous experience of counted embroidery techniques such as Cross stitch is useful for this class but with each of the techniques there will be a choice of design options to suit different levels of experience so all will be able to build their own Sampler.
You can explore many more stitches on the RSN Stitch Bank.
