SS25ONL04 Blackwork, Arts and Crafts Cushion (inspired by the Isham Cushion in RSN Collection & Archive) NEW
£350.00
This class is part of the RSN International Summer School 2025
This mini cushion class design is inspired by a piece from our Collection & Archive first 100 pieces plus the piece that was inspired from. The design features a variety of surface stitches including Heavy Chain Stitch, Stem Stitch, Seeding and Blanket Stitch. Worked in brown stranded cotton on linen. You will also learn how to make it up using ladder stitch, and finishing it with your own cord making.
The piece in our collection was inspired by a circa 1600-1625 waistcoat now in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum. It was loaned by Sir Charles Isham to the 1873 Special Loan Exhibition of Decorative Art Needlework, hosted by the South Kensington Museum (later the Victoria and Albert Museum). Lady Victoria Welby, the founder of the School of Art Needlework, arranged with several of the exhibition’s lenders that their objects could be studied by the women of the school. Isham’s waistcoat was one such object.
