Description
Inspired by a Holbein portrait of Jane Seymour and a gentleman’s blackwork cap in the Victoria and Albert Museum, this kit will teach you how to embroider and make up your own Tudor Sweete Bag. Learn how to work a double-sided Holbein Stitch border as well as a typical Elizabethan design of plants and flowers contained within rings or ‘rinceaux’ in a combination of black and gold threads and spangles. Finally make your embroidery up into a sweete bag using a French seam and a hem stitched edge.
Designed by RSN Tutor and Fellow Sarah Smith.
This kit is suitable for embroiderers at an intermediate level, who already have some experience of surface embroidery and counted thread techniques.
Stitches covered include: Holbein, Hemstitch, eyelets, stem stitch, chain and seeding to create tonal shading
