This is a form of Whitework embroidery (Schwalmer Weisstickerei) that developed in the Schwalm region of central Germany. It started as a form of surface embroidery in the late 17th century, but during the following centuries the enclosed areas were opened up by withdrawing threads and then decorated with pulled thread stitches. The design is stitched with white threads on a white linen fabric.
The class will include a demonstration on how to finish the design as a decoration to hang on your Christmas tree. The class kit will include all the materials needed to finish the design as a decoration.
Some experience of counted thread techniques, such as Cross Stitch, is not essential but would be useful for this class.
