Please note this is a unique opportunity to stitch in The Drapers' Hall, one of the most magnificent venues in London and receive an expert talk & tour as part of your class.  Places are limited so early booking is essential!

We are delighted to offer students an exclusive opportunity to attend our hand embroidery Experience Class at the stunning Drapers' Company Livery Hall in London on Monday 12 May 2025.

The Fleur de Lys design is a classic heraldic symbol and features prominently in the coat of arms of the Worshipful Company of Drapers. The red-pink silk has been chosen to compliment the colours of the beautiful surroundings of the Drapers’ Hall Drawing Room where the class will be held.

Working in Gilt and Silver Plated metal threads onto a sumptuous silk satin, this class will introduce Students to some key Goldwork techniques as well as mounting techniques to turn your piece into a gorgeous brooch, perfect for adding sparkle to any outfit.

During this one day class, students will learn Felt Padding, Pearl Purl and Chipping before learning how to make the piece up into a brooch, using Running Stitch, Lacing and Ladder Stitch.

You will also have the chance to find out more about the history of The Drapers' Company which  was granted a Royal Charter by Edward III more than 600 years ago in 1364.  Soon after your arrival, you will enjoy refreshments while Archivist, Penny Fussell, provides a short talk about the Company in the magnificent Drawing Room where your class will take place (please see our product gallery for images).

This class is suitable for all levels and your kit will include everything you require to complete the project after the class. You may like to bring your own magnifiers but you will be able to borrow ring frames and scissors on the day. You may wish to bring your own sewing kit, including fabric scissors.

The RSN has a long history of working with the Worshipful Company of Drapers and has recently refurbished the Drapers’ original velvet crowns which are adorned with Tudor Rose and Fleur de Lys motifs.
