View map
£258.00
It’s time to get ahead for Christmas and make this fun and festive box. You could use it to hold some small Christmas decorations in, a gift or you could hide some cheeky Christmas chocolates in it.
This 2-day in person class, is the perfect introduction to box making and you will learn all the basic skills to make a fabric covered embroidered box. With these skills you will be able to make the box again, in a different size, or branch out and make something a bit more detailed.
The box is approximately 11cm x 8cm (4.3” x 3.1”) and has a padded lift off lid which will be embroidered using stranded cotton, etoile thread, metallic thread and some beads. The card pieces are covered in cotton fabric, with the interior fabric being a one-off Liberty Christmas print; they never repeat their patterns.
During this class you will learn how to accurately measure and cut the card pieces. You will be shown 2 methods of how to cover the card and then you will learn how to construct the box.
The embroidery on the lid is a fun Christmas motif. You will learn how to attach beads and the stitches you will cover are, Stem Stitch, Split Stitch, Satin Stitch, Raised Fishbone Stitch and Lazy Daisies.
The kit includes everything you will need to make the box: card, fabric, threads, beads, craft knife, metal ruler, double sided tape and full instructions.
Please ensure to bring along a sharp pencil (mechanical pencils are good), an eraser, fabric scissors and embroidery scissors. Tweezers would be useful but not essential and they do not have to be specialist tweezers.
This class is suitable for all levels and it is a good place to start on your box making journey.
You can explore many more stitches on the RSN Stitch Bank.
Please note this is an onsite class which will run from 10am-4pm on 16 & 17 November at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9AU.
