Inspired by the traditional goldwork motifs found throughout historic embroidery, this elegant leaf design provides the perfect introduction to the art of goldwork. Working with a range of metal threads and materials, you will learn the foundations of this historic technique while creating a decorative embroidered piece.
Throughout the class, you will explore key goldwork techniques including chipping, couching and the application of cutwork purls over soft string padding. You will learn how these techniques can be combined to create texture, relief and light within your embroidery, bringing the design to life through stitch.
All materials required to complete the project will be provided. Please bring a notebook and pen if you would like to make notes throughout the class. You are also welcome to film demonstrations for your own personal reference and practice after the workshop.
