Celebrate the beauty of the iris in this four-day silk shading masterclass. Using this elegant bloom as your subject, you will learn how to create depth, form and realism through the careful blending of colour and stitch. Working step by step, you will explore how to map colours, plan stitch direction and use light and shade to bring the flower to life.
Held at Hampton Court Palace, this class will introduce a range of silk shading techniques including long and short stitch, split stitch, stem stitch, holding stitches and French knots. With guidance throughout, you will develop an understanding of the principles of thread painting while creating a detailed embroidered iris.
