£175.00
Please note this is an onsite class which will run from 10am-4.30pm at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9AU.
Join us on Wednesday 16 October when RSN Tutor Sonia Lee will be teaching a beautiful leaves and berries design inspired by a Georgian waistcoat from the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection, which is housed at Hampton Court Palace. Your day will include a Curator visit to the Collection to view the waistcoat and other objects.
The waistcoat belonged to Sir James Wigram who was an MP in the 1840s and once he retired, he was made a Vice Chancellor, a Knight Bachelor and a Privy Councillor. The waistcoat would have been worn as part of his Court Dress Suit. (View images of the original waistcoat in the product gallery).
During the class you will learn embroidery techniques including split stitch, long & short stitch, stem stitch, satin stitch, straight stitches and card padding. Your motif will be stitched on linen using both stranded cottons and silk threads.
The class cost includes all materials and necessary equipment. All aspects of the motif will be covered during the class and a full instruction booklet will be included in the kit to enable you to complete the embroidery at home. You will be able to borrow ring frames and scissors on the day but may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and magnifiers if you need them.
All the stitches covered in this class and more can be found on the RSN Stitchbank.
