This small circular design is inspired by a family trip to Runswick Bay on the North Yorkshire coast. It incorporates a rich combination of techniques and materials, making it both varied and engaging to stitch.
A range of threads is used, including stranded cotton, crewel wool, silk gimp, and chenille thread. Techniques include fabric appliqué with felt padding, long and short stitch, and surface stitches such as raised stem band and turkey rug stitch. Additional texture and detail are created with metallic mesh, gimp, and bead embellishment.
The design is worked on a linen background fabric, enhancing its natural texture and coastal inspiration.
The finished design measures 9 cm × 9 cm.
