In this 3 session online workshop learn to embroiderer this beautiful silk and metal thread Jay design.

Using a combination of silk covered purls and fine metal wire threads, the Jay embroidery captures this beautiful bird with its peachy copper and electric blue plumage.

The threads in Metal work embroidery are held on the surface of the fabric by a sewing thread, and depending on the type of metal it is either stitched over or through, like a bead. The application and finish of each thread creates a different texture to suit the style of the design whether it be smooth and shiny or layered and sculptural.

Learn how to work with a variety of metal threads and master stitches including couching passing with colour (Or Nue), basketweave cutwork, applying silk covered plate and cutwork S'ing. Once finished, your Jay is surrounded with 2 wooden autumnal oak leaves and mounted in the hoop (optional).

Becky will guide you through the project with step-by-step instructional videos, live demonstrations and will also share inspirational images, both historical and current. You’ll have a chance to connect with other students and share your work in progress via a WhatsApp group.

All the kits are designed by Becky Hogg and produced by hand in the U.K.

Kit includes – Wooden hoop, linen, cotton backing fabric, cotton sewing threads, silk covered metal threads, metal purl threads, needles and instructions, beeswax and 2 pre cut ply leaves all packaged in a stylish hand screen printed gift box to keep everything safe.

Additional equipment required- A 6 or 8 inch embroidery hoop or similar, embroidery scissors, a mellor, awl or stiletto, a ruler or tape measure, low tack tape and some pins.

This workshop is suitable for students with a basic level of embroidery/sewing, but not suited to beginner.
