This beautiful embroidery design combines the traditional embroidery techniques of Goldwork, Silk Shading,Stumpwork and Ribbonwork.

The design represents the intricate story of embroidery in the form of a tree, encompassing the essential equipment used in creating embroidery. The caterpillar represents the idea in its first from, transforming into the final design as a butterfly. The glasses are for the tiny details in embroidery and how many of us needs glasses in order to see and stitch them. The bells are for celebration. When the embroidery is finished and all the time and effort spent in creating it was worth it. The snail represents patience. Embroidery is slow and time consuming, but the journey and end result are always worth the wait. The key has multiple meanings, the key to a good idea, but also that patience and practice are key to creating beautiful works of embroidery. The flowers are the embroideries that we create. Small and beautiful in their own way, some finished, framed and shown off proudly, while other stay in a drawer unfinished but none the less beautiful.

Over the period of the course the students will learn a number of goldwork techniques such as, creating felt and string padding, applying metalic kid leather, decorative couching and Ornué, chipping, cutwork and applying gilt metal threads such as Pearl Purl, Bright Check, Passing Thread and Spangles.

The Silk Shaded butterfly wings are worked on organza which will then be outlined in wire and turned into Stumpwork wings. Tapestry shading is then used to create the body of the snail before its Goldwork shell isworked on top.

Ribbon work flowers are then created to decorate the Or nué scrolling branches, and finally when all the embroidery is complete, the final dolls house size accessories are added to finish off the piece.

The embroidered panel is a perfect size to make into an embroidered box lid and on request mounting supplies can be provided (embroidered area 18 x 13cm approx).

Kit Inclusions: The kit includes all fabrics, needles, and threads in order to work the embroidery, as well as a step by step instruction booklet.
