Join Becky for a 3-session online class and learn the skills of Metal Thread Embroidery in this stylish Heron design.
Embroidered in sumptuous metal threads over craft felt and soft string padding, the Heron brings together traditional techniques using beautiful silver-plated metals and silk covered purls.
Learn how to:
Prepare your fabric for embroidery.
Use the right tools for the best results.
Work different padding techniques including felt and soft string padding.
Master stitches including brick couching, cutwork, and applying silk wrapped purl.
Present and preserve your piece.
Becky will guide you through the project with step by step instructional videos, live demonstrations and will also share inspirational images both historical and current.
You'll have a chance to connect with other students and share your work in progress via a WhatsApp group.
The class kit includes all the materials to complete your design. A list of additional equipment will be sent out prior to the class.
The finished bird embroidery measures approximately 8x9cm, and the wooden hoop is 11cm diameter.

The kit is manufactured by the Royal School of Needlework and includes Linen fabric, Cotton fabric, Needles, Beeswax, Silver plated threads,Paper bags, Silk thread, Cotton thread, Gutermann polyester thread, Wooden hoop (beech and brass), Leather, Paper booklet, Ribbon, Felt.
Warning: Not suitable for small children, kit contains sharp objects.
