ONL26041 Tree of life in Jacobean Crewelwork
£295.00
Develop your crewelwork skills while stitching a traditional Tree of Life design inspired by the rich history of Jacobean embroidery. Emerging in early 17th-century England, Jacobean crewelwork is characterised by flowing designs stitched in wool threads, often featuring stylised flowers, exotic plants, animals and the iconic Tree of Life motif. Originally used to decorate furnishings such as bed hangings, curtains and cushions, these intricate designs remain some of the most recognisable examples of English embroidery.
Throughout the class, you will learn a wide range of crewelwork techniques including block shading, bullion knots, buttonhole stitch, chain stitch, coral stitch, fern stitch, French knots, heavy chain, laid work, long and short stitch, outline stitch, padded satin stitch, raised stem band and whipped wheel stitches. You will explore how these techniques work together to create texture, movement and detail within the design.
All materials required to complete the project will be provided.
