Description
Queen Charlotte Rose by RSN Tutor Sarah Smith
This embroidery Design is inspired by the 1781 portrait of Queen Charlotte by Thomas Gainsborough from the Royal Collection.
Learn how to create a translucent white organdie ‘window’ in white linen using reverse applique bordered with pin stitch to recreate the delicate sheer fabric of the Queen’s dress. You will then create a golden rose motif within the window using gold metallic thread and the shadow work technique. Gilt spangles will add shimmer and sparkle to the design.
Finally, you will create four delicate but simple shoulder designs in Whitework on the linen to frame the design and add interest. These reflect the simple floral tendrils which decorate the Queen’s hair and are completed in Stem Stitch, Detached Chain and French Knots.
