This is an exclusive RSN/Royal Collection Trust Partnership Class to be held at Windsor Castle on 14 May 2024.

To celebrate the centenary Queen Mary's Dolls' House at Windsor Castle, join us to stitch this gorgeous Wildflower Posy motif influenced by the embroidery on small-scale sofas in the Saloon room.  Students may stitch both the pendant and a larger size design and will also be treated to an intimate, private view of the Dolls' House with a Curator from Royal Collection Trust.

RSN Tutor, Sarah Smith's beautiful design is inspired by a pair of tiny Turner, Lord and Company sofas commissioned for the Dolls' House. Students will have the opportunity to stitch this design at a similar scale to the original sofas, in order to appreciate the skill and craftsmanship involved in their construction, but will also be provided with a larger scale alternative to be worked should eyesight or confidence be a problem.

The miniature design is worked on silk gauze of 40 holes per inch, and can be placed in a pendant measuring 3 x 4 cm and the larger design can be worked on 18 holes per inch canvas and will measure approximately 6 x 9 cm. Materials and instructions for both are included in the class. We have also included a pendant and gold plated chain in your kit so you may wear your embroidered Wildflower Posy with pride.

The embroidery techniques covered in this class will include:
preparing the canvas/silk gauze to be worked in the hole; starting and finishing your thread; learning the three stitches used in Canvaswork and when to use them, plus tips for following a charted design.

This class is suitable for all levels of skill from beginner to advanced. Your kit will include everything you require to complete the project after the class. You may like to bring your own lights or magnifiers (battery operated only), but you will be able to borrow ring frames and scissors on the day. Please do not bring your own scissors.

This event includes a Curator's private view of Queen Mary's Dolls' House: For nearly 100 years, visitors to Windsor Castle have been astonished by the attention to detail of this one of a kind royal town house. Together with hundreds of household objects, each reproduced at a 1:12 scale, the house features working lifts, electric lighting and running water. Its library contains tiny books specially written by the greatest authors of the day. This dolls’ house was never intended for children, but instead to showcase the best of British art and design after the First World War.

Your visit will be truly exclusive as Windsor Castle will be closed to the public on the days our embroidery classes take place.
