SS25ONL06 Canvas and Gold Florentine Frog Prince (Inspired by the Isabel Elliot collection in the RSN Collection and Archive) NEW
£316.00
This class is part of the RSN International Summer School 2025
Immerse yourself in the timeless art of embroidery with this exclusive 4 session Canvas and Goldwork workshop offered by the Royal School of Needlework (RSN).
This class is inspired by a delightful Florentine-stitched frog from the RSN Collection & Archive ( which you can view here.), combined with personal touches in memory of my late grandmother’s love of frogs, including a special frog prince ornament and a treasured childhood toy.
The workshop blends traditional Canvas work and Goldwork techniques, using metallic threads to bring the design to life with texture and brilliance. By the end of the 4 sessions you’ll have created a unique and whimsical piece inspired by history and heartfelt memories, while developing valuable skills in these classic embroidery methods.
During the 4 sessions you will learn and practice a range of foundational embroidery stitches, including:
- Canvas Stitches: Florentine stitch, Cashmere stitch.
- Goldwork Stitches: Pearl purl, Bright Check (No.6) Chipping.
These stitches will allow you to explore foundation techniques and stitches while bringing the inspired design to life.
You will work on 18 TPI canvas and stitch with high-quality Appleton Wools in a vibrant palette that modernises while being sympathetic to the historic design’s aesthetic.
This workshop is perfect for beginners, with no prior experience necessary. It is also suitable for anyone with an interest in historical embroidery or looking to learn foundational techniques.
