Step into a dreamlike world in this five-day embroidery workshop led by embroidery artist Eliza Gomersall, exploring the delicate interplay of silk painting and embroidery to create an ethereal landscape. Immerse yourself in the stillness of nature, where the frog dreams and the mountains whisper.

Guided step by step, learn how to paint a soft mountain scene on silk creating a misty, atmospheric backdrop. Embroidery techniques are then combined to add depth and texture, bringing the landscape to life with fine stitched details, including a frog perched in tranquil wonder. Basic embroidery experience is helpful, though techniques are demonstrated and supported throughout the five days. The workshop invites experimentation with the harmony of paint and stitch.

Whether you are drawn to nature-inspired embroidery or simply wish to try something new, this workshop offers a unique approach to mixed media embroidery. No prior painting experience is necessary. Learn to mix pigments to create delicate washes of colour and prepare a painted base for embroidery to layer onto. This workshop also offers a glimpse into traditional tambour embroidery introducing the rhythmic hook technique used in couture embellishment. There is no pressure to finish the piece during the workshop. The focus is on learning techniques and enjoying the process.

Guest Tutor – Eliza Gomersall

Eliza Gomersall is a hand embroidery artist based in a rural village in southeast England. Working from her home studio, she creates meticulously handcrafted pieces inspired by the British landscape, wildlife and heritage. Her work combines elements of nature and fantasy, blending traditional hand embroidery techniques with contemporary design to create intricate, ethereal pieces. After graduating from The Royal School of Needlework, Eliza won First Prize in The Hand & Lock Prize 2022 Textile Art Student Category for her piece Palingenesis. In 2023 she completed the Chanel and The King’s Foundation Metiers d’Art Embroidery Fellowship in Partnership with le19M, further refining her skills if couture craftmanship.

Alongside her larger textile works, Eliza is developing a collection of embroidered jewellery that translates intricate hand embroidery into wearable pieces. Her embroidered work has been worn by Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster, and she created an embroidered brooch for Queen Camilla to wear to The Finding Harmony Premiere. Eliza enjoys sharing her skills through embroidery workshops, encouraging others to explore creativity and craftmanship through hand embroidery. Alongside her personal practice, she also freelances in costume embroidery, where she continues to gain valuable experience and explore new approaches to her craft. Eliza is happy to provide supplier information for those who wish to purchase any of the tools or equipment used during this workshop.
