This technique has its history in military, ecclesiastical and royal regalia, but it also creates the most beautiful and dramatic embroideries. This introduction class will teach you the basics of Goldwork Embroidery with this pretty stylised  lily motif found on many 18th century costumes. You will be taught how to Couch Japanese threads and shown how to finish the ends by ‘plunging’ them to the back of your work. In addition, you will learn how to handle Pearl Purl while couching it down including starting and finishing. Finally, you will learn the technique of Cut Work by doing Chip work using Purl, all highlighted by stitching down spangles.

The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
