Learn the beautiful embroidery technique of Silk Shading to create this festive Christmas Robin design. You will be using fine stranded cotton thread to delicately blend between colours and to build up the texture of feathers.
Silk Shading refers to the hand embroidery technique which uses a variety of Long and Short stitches and colour blending in stranded cotton or silk threads. Often referred to as painting with a needle, this technique can be used to create realistic texture, shading and enables the embroiderer to create designs which have a life-like quality.
This simple design will introduce you to Split Stitch, Satin Stitch and Long and Short Stitch, all of which are essential when creating a piece of Silk Shading. Often referred to as ‘painting with a needle’, Silk Shading is achieved using a variety of Long and Short straight stitches and colour blending to create an almost photographic quality.
There will be plenty of opportunity during the class to ask the Tutor questions and in advance of the class all preparation information will be emailed to you along with an invitation to join the class on the day.
You can explore many more stitches on the RSN Stitch Bank.
The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
