Please note this is an onsite class which will run from 10am-4pm at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9AU.

The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. Our classrooms have been arranged to ensure that attending students feel safe and comfortable at all times. There is hand sanitiser available in the classroom.

This class will show various ways a piece of evenweave fabric can be finished with decorative hems and edges.

The hems to be taught will include a Drawn- thread hem with a mitered corner, with the threads grouped as bars or as a zig-zag, and a Peahole Hem. The edges of these Drawn Thread hems can be decorated with Pulled Back stitch or Buttonhole scallops with picots.

As an alternative to a hem you will learn how to finish the edges of the fabric with a Buttonhole stitch edging, a folded Peahole Stitch and a 4-sided stitch edging. By the end of the class you will have produced samples of the various finishes.

Some experience of counted thread techniques - such as Cross Stitch - is not essential but would be useful for this class.

The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.

You can explore many more stitches on the RSN Stitch Bank.
