Friday 16 &23 February 2024
Friday 1, 8, 15 & 22 March 2024

There is no kit for this class.

Tapestry Shading is a unique form of Silk Shading as all of the stitches worked are vertical. This technique focuses on understanding the order of work correctly to help create a three dimensional image and at the same time concentrates on how colours should be blended to create a sense of light and dark building motion into static stitching.

This class will cover how to create all of the preparatory drawings needed before commencing stitching. It will also cover an assortment of exercises to exploring Silk Shading in its vertical form. There will be exercises covering order of work, how to accurately depict light and dark through colour and how to create accurate drapery by combining these elements. This class will also cover how to work hands and faces as well as additional details.

Please note that the images shared are not the sample being worked but show how Tapestry Shading can be used in a larger piece.

Once all of these elements have been mastered you will have all of the tools to create your own Tapestry Shaded figure.

The class kit will be posted out to you. Your kit includes everything you need. The only things you’ll need are a pair embroidery scissors and it would be useful to have a pencil and paper in case you wish to take extra notes.

You can explore many more stitches on the RSN Stitch Bank.
