In this online 3 session ‘silk and metal thread embroidery’ course join Becky and learn the skills of this beautiful hand embroidery technique.

On this 3 session online class learn how to embroiderer this the elegant Jay with a combination of silk covered purls and fine metal wire threads in peachy copper and electric blues.

The threads in Metal work embroidery are held on the surface of the fabric by a sewing thread, and depending on the type of metal it is either stitched over or through, like a bead. The application and finish of each thread creates a different texture to suit the style of the design whether it be smooth and shiny or layered and sculptural.

Discover how to work with a variety of metal threads and master stitches including couching passing with colour (Or Nue), basketweave cutwork, applying silk covered plate and cutwork S’ing. Once finished, your Jay is surrounded with 2 wooden autumnal oak leaves and mounted in the hoop (optional).

You will be guided step by step through this project with clear video demonstrations and screen shared images, supported by an illustrated instruction booklet that comes with your Jay kit. In addition, a specific WhatsApp group will be set up to enable the sharing of work in progress images and for the tutor to give instant feedback during the class.

The finished embroidery measures approximately 6x8cm.

There will be plenty of opportunity during the class to ask the Tutor questions.
