This motif was inspired by images found dating back to the Arts & Crafts Movement that ran from the late 19th Century to the early 20th century.
The design is worked using silk and gilt threads on a 'shot' weave cotton fabric. During the stitching of this design, the beginner/improver embroiderer will learn numerous stitches and techniques which include felt padding, Goldwork chipping, couching, Raised Fishbone, Fern Stitch, Herringbone Stitch, French Knot, Back Stitch, Stem Stitch, Whipped Wheel, Woven Wheel, Padded Satin Stitch.
This class has been especially scheduled as 2 days over 3 weeks with a gap to allow the student plenty of time to complete the stitch techniques that ideally need to be completed before progressing on to the final steps using metal threads, which can be so easily damaged if not left until last.
Design measures 15cm wide x 18cm high and uses silk embroidery threads with Goldwork threads on a 'shot' cotton fabric.
There will be plenty of opportunity during the class to ask the Tutor.
This class is suitable for all levels and your kit will include everything you require to complete the project after the class. The only things you'll need are a 10 inch bound embroidery hoop and a pair of embroidery scissors. It would also be useful to have a pencil and paper in case you wish to take extra notes.
You can explore many more stitches on the RSN Stitch Bank.
