This design is inspired by the beautiful embroidered insects and flowers that were popular in the 1600s. Often stitched onto garments and headwear, they were worked in needlelace and linked together with swirling tendrils in metal thread. Our Dragonfly is stitched in silk threads using corded buttonhole and Ceylon needlelace. His wings are decorated with spiders web stitches and he sits on a branch of Elizabethan plaited braid stitch, both made with gilt smooth passing thread.

The class kit will be posted out to you. Your kit includes all the materials required to complete this design. The only only additional items you will need are a 8” hoop, a pair embroidery scissors, Goldwork scissors and a thimble. It would be useful to have a pencil and paper in case you wish to take extra notes.

You can explore many more stitches on the RSN Stitch Bank.
