ONL25265 Goldwork Map Making
£267.00
Create your own unique Goldwork map with RSN Tutor Sarah de Rousset-Hall in an online class over 4 sessions.
Choose a location dear to you to transform into a dramatic Goldwork map on black cotton velvet, inspired by Sarah’s London Lights artwork which is now held in the Diana Springall Collection.
Students will need to select their map location before class and have a physical version e.g. an OS Map (1:25,000 scale is ideal), or printout from Google Maps in order to create their design. The finished project will be mounted into a 4” hoop, so please bear in mind this scale when choosing your map.
In the first two sessions, students will focus on turning their map into a working design and stitch plan, sampling goldwork stitches and transferring their finalised design onto velvet.
In the second two sessions, students will start to work their piece with guidance from Sarah, and instruction on mounting their work into a hoop once completed.
The kit includes: Black Cotton Velvet, Calico fabric for backing and sampling, Gilt and Silver Plated Goldwork threads, seed beads, sewing threads, needles, beeswax, mini velvet board, tracing paper and tissue paper.
Your kit will include all the materials you will need to complete and mount the design, but you will need the following equipment in addition: 6” embroidery hoop, embroidery scissors, scissors suitable for cutting fabric, and a sharp pencil. A ruler and set of compasses may also be helpful for the design phase.
You can explore many more stitches on the RSN Stitch Bank.
