This Jacobean Crewelwork design has been created by the RSN Embroidery Studio, and is inspired by a portiere curtain or screen design that was originally produced by the Royal School of Needlework Design Room.

During the 1930s there was a huge resurgence of interest in Jacobean Crewelwork and there were many magazines and transfers produced for the public to purchase and work. The design elements have been rearranged to fill a generous space which could be made into a cushion as shown in the images or mounted and framed as a picture.

The colours have been carefully selected to give the design a classic yet contemporary feel that will complement most colour schemes within a room.

This short course is for those who have some embroidery experience and contains a range of surface embroidery stitches. The tutor will guide you through setting up your fabric onto a slate frame or a roller frame, back to basics for all stitches and how to plan your order of work for a larger project such as this one.

In addition to the kit, you will also need:
Slate frame (24in) or roller frame (68cm x 30cm)
Embroidery scissors
Small box of glass headed pins
Tape Measure and sharp HB pencil
Tissue paper

You can explore many more stitches on the RSN Stitch Bank.

The kit is manufactured by the Royal School of Needlework and includes 1 printed piece of linen twill, 1 pack of chenille no. 24 needles, 1 pack of Embroidery A Broder size 5 needles, 36 Skeins of Appleton Crewel wool, basic framing up kit and instructions with diagrams.

Warning: Not suitable for small children, kit contains sharp objects.
