Would you like to learn the art and craft of Passementerie? One of the rarest and most special of all textile arts, Passementerie is the art of creating decorative embellishments such as braids, trimmings, tassels, fringes and rosettes for applications such as interior design, bespoke clothes making, millinery, jewellery and more.
Join Passementerie expert Elizabeth Ashdown for an immersive 5-day Passementerie Masterclass. During this unique and immersive Masterclass you will explore the wonderful world of contemporary, hand made passementerie. Passementerie is an 'endangered' craft in the UK and so this is a very special opportunity to learn how to create your own hand made passementerie from one of the last remaining passementerie makers.
During these classes, you will learn the traditional making techniques and skills required in order to create your own passementerie with confidence including items such as hand woven designs, tassels, rosettes, covered drops and cord spinning.
Guest Tutor – Elizabeth Ashdown
Elizabeth is one of only a few practising hand passementerie artists in the UK. She combines traditional craft with contemporary design to create innovative trims, tassels, and fringes. Her award-winning work has won Best Decorative Touch at the Living Etc Style Awards 2025 and Trim of the Year at the 2025 Homes & Gardens Design Awards. She designed the multiple award-winning Kaleidoscope collection for Samuel & Sons.
Based in London, Elizabeth creates bespoke passementerie for interior designers, fashion designers, and milliners, and develops wall-based artworks using her signature techniques. She's the author of Passementerie: Handcrafting Contemporary Trimmings, Tassels, Fringes and More and holds an MA in Textiles from the Royal College of Art.
A passionate educator, Elizabeth teaches Passementerie Masterclasses online and in person, and was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust ADAM Architecture Scholarship in 2023.
Please note this is an in-person class at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9AU.
