This design depicts scarlet pimpernel, a common British wildflower. Its striking scarlet flowers open only in the sunshine, providing it with its alternative name, shepherd’s weatherglass.

This design provides an introduction to long and short shading to create the distinctive and vibrantly coloured petals of the wildflower. It also covers other surface stitches, including Split Stitch, Stem Stitch, Couching, Raised Stem Band and Raised Leaf Stitch. It is finished with the application of glass beads for the stamens. The repetition of the design elements provides plenty of opportunities to practise and perfect these techniques.

Using a selection of bright stranded cottons and glass beads, this design is worked on a complementary pale yellow cotton fabric.

This class is suitable for beginners, but embroiderers of all levels are welcome.
The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.

You can explore many more stitches on the RSN Stitch Bank.
