Following on from the Goldwork Fundamentals class, Intermediate Goldwork Fundamentals helps to consolidate Goldwork technique and expand your skills into more advanced Goldwork. It is not a prerequisite to have attended the Goldwork Fundamentals class, but some experience of Goldwork is required.

The class is worked as a sampler on linen over 6 evenings, split into 2 week modules of Padding, Couching and Cutwork. Each module will include a refresh of the basic techniques as well as introducing more advanced skills.

Week 1 & 2 - Padding techniques, introducing Carpet Felt Padding and Card/Interface Padding as well as a refresh of Felt Padding and Hard and Soft String Padding.

Week 3 & 4 - Couching Techniques introducing: Couching over Soft String, Diaper Patterns, Underside Couching, Plate, Spangles and Over Stretch Pearl Purl. We will also refresh basic Couching and applying Pearl Purl.

Week 5 & 6 - Cutwork Techniques Introducing: Basketweave Cutwork, Cutwork with Spangles, Coloured Purl Cutwork, Looped Purls and Chain Stitch. We will also refresh: Chipping, and basic Cutwork.

There will also be space on the sampler for students' own experimentation with the techniques covered.

The kit includes a variety of Goldwork threads and padding materials that will be used to create your sampler. Including: Pearl Purl, Smooth Purl, Rough Purl, Bright Check, Wire Check, Smooth Passing, Plate, Spangles and a selection of Coloured Purls. Goldwork tweezers, needles, printed Irish linen fabric, padding materials, sewing threads, beeswax and a mini velvet board are also included.

Written instructions are not included but there will be time to take notes.
Students will also need a 10” hoop and embroidery scissors. A mellor may be helpful but is not essential.

Your Zoom link will be sent a minimum of 48 hours prior to the class and will be sent to the email address you booked the class with. If you do not receive it, check your junk mail to see if it is there and if you still do not have it then please email [email protected]

The class kit will be posted out to you. Your kit includes everything you need. The only things you’ll need are a pair of embroidery scissors and it would be useful to have a pencil and paper in case you wish to take extra notes.

You can explore many more stitches on the RSN Stitch Bank.
