Jacobean Crewelwork is a good technique to start your embroidery journey with and is the first module you would undertake at the RSN if you were planning to embark on the Certificate programme. Equally this design day would be perfect for those who wish to extend their embroidery skills into producing their own unique design. This class is the first in a series of technique led design days.

This workshop will introduce you to the history, influences and motifs of Jacobean Crewelwork design. We will look at historic pieces, as well as more modern pieces recently stitched at the RSN. You will then learn how to build up an image containing all the components required for a balanced Jacobean Crewelwork design; thinking about placement, negative space, oversized motifs, animal inclusion, as well as how to incorporate all the stitches required to bring the design to fruition. We will use a booklet packed full of ideas, shapes and floral requirements to build up the image. So by the end of the day, you will feel confident in creating your very own Jacobean Crewelwork Design.

There will be plenty of opportunity during the class to ask the Tutor questions.

You can explore many more stitches on the RSN Stitch Bank.
