In this 11-month online long course, you will work with over a dozen different types of gold thread, plus kid leather, spangles and pearls. You will learn 5 different types of padding, and the many varied techniques of couching and cutwork. Working simultaneously on all areas of the design at once, you’ll be able to practice and perfect your skills, while creating a beautiful piece of embroidery at the same time. After you’ve worked the pre-set sections of the sampler, made up of four intricate corners, you’ll bring all the techniques together to create a uniquely personal central picture, which you yourself will design.
A full kit for this course is provided, which includes your colour choice of 100% linen, backing calico, everything you will need to frame up properly for Goldwork, all sewing and padding materials, gold threads (including leather and spangles), beeswax, velvet board and filled needlecase. Your kit also includes a pre-printed ‘mini’ sampler design on the same colour fabric as your main piece, which you can practice on before you start working on your main piece.
Finally, an online student portal will hold all of the videos, photographs and other learning support materials for the duration of the course, allowing you to re-watch demonstrations as often as you like.
The Course
Tuition includes 22 evenings of tuition. Sessions will run fortnightly on Tuesdays from 7pm – 9.30pm UK local time:
A kit containing all required materials is included in the price , however students will need to supply their own square frame and embroidery scissors.
Upon registration, an information pack will be sent to the student with details of how to prepare for the first session.
