Join Kelley in two 2½ hour sessions to work this charming motif which can form part of a larger repeating border. Goldwork, Stumpwork and Surface embroidery techniques are all included in this design, as well as the more advanced Shisha Stitch. The finished embroidery measures approximately 9cm long and 4cm wide.
In the first session, you will learn how to couch gold thread and secure loose ends on the back of the work (called 'plunging and tying back'). You will also learn Stem Stitch and Raised Leaf Stitch.
In the second session, you will learn how to wrap a bead with silk ribbon, attach small Shisha mirrors, and embellish your piece with some Goldwork chipping and spangles.
You will be guided step by step through this project with clear video demonstrations and screen shared images, supported by an illustrated instruction booklet which comes in the kit. In addition, a specific WhatsApp group will be set up to enable the sharing of work in progress images and for the tutor to give instant feedback during the class. Finally, there will be an online student classroom where all images and videos (plus extra information about various useful resources) will be accessible 24/7 for the duration of the class, and for an additional 3 months afterwards.
Kit includes: prep printed linen, backing calico fabric, imitation Japanese gold thread, Bright Check gold thread, gold spangles, wooden beads, silk ribbon, variegated stranded cotton thread, cotton sewing thread, Shisha mirrors, needle book, instruction booklet.
Additional equipment required: a 6" embroidery hoop or similar, sharp embroidery scissors and a small amount of white (pva) glue (optional).
