This class is part of the RSN International Summer School 2024
This is an in person class and takes place at Hampton Court Palace. The class runs over five days from Monday 15 to Friday 19 July 2024: 10am-4pm.
5 day workshop will focus on contemporary embroidery to allow students to explore ways to interpret ideas using textured stitches and techniques with samples. They will then choose a design of their own to use the learned techniques to recreate their image and bring it to life. This is the perfect opportunity to use your own stash of materials
Day 1 – dyeing and painting on fabric to create textures for backgrounds and applique using paints, stamps, stencils, sprays, image transferring
Day 2 – framing up, creating abstract samples using applique techniques, padding, fabric manipulation and couching
Day 3 – continuing samples with beads, sequins and surface stitches to create textures i.e. turkey rug, picots, woven wheels
Day 4 – Choosing a design for a final piece exploring how they can use the samples created to enhance the design, prepping the base fabric and applying the fabrics and padding
Day 5 – adding surface stitches to the design to create details
