SS24HCP515 Shadow Work: ‘Lily of the Valley’ NEW
View map
£580.00
This class is part of the RSN International Summer School 2024
This is an in person class and takes place at Hampton Court Palace. The class runs over two days from Thursday 23 and Wednesday 24 July 2024 10am - 4pm
This Lily of the Valley design is worked using shadow work technique worked on sheer silk organza. This project requires several skilled steps to complete this finished elegant design. The fun of shadow work is that stitches are worked on the reverse of one or more layers of sheer fabric so that some of the thread is fully visible on the front, with the remainder viewed through
the fabric. Stitches are always worked with the knowledge that if the thread is carried across the back of the work, it must be done with purpose as it will be visible and will form part of the design.
To add to the complexity of the project, some areas of the design are stitched through several layers of sheer silk organza, that are then trimmed away to create opaque areas of the design, while leaving others to remain translucent. The design will also include ‘captured sequins’.
You can explore many more stitches on the RSN Stitch Bank.
