This class is part of the RSN International Summer School 2024

This is an in person  class and takes place at Tracy Franklin's Studio in Durham. The class runs over five days  from Monday 15 to Friday 19 July 2024: 10am - 4pm

The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. Our classrooms have been arranged to ensure that attending students feel safe and comfortable at all times. There is hand sanitiser available in the classroom. All demonstrations are delivered by use of a visualiser.

Goldwork has its history rooted in military, ecclesiastical and royal regalia, but it also creates the most beautiful and dramatic embroideries. Using a wide variety of metal threads, it can be combined with other techniques to produce luxurious effects.

This 5 day course offers a unique opportunity to take an in-depth look at this beautiful embroidery technique, taking it forward through experimentation under the guidance of RSN Tutors Tracy Franklin and Pippa Foulds.

Only suitable for embroiderers who have studied traditional Goldwork techniques and who wish to take their practice further and increase their understanding of how to use these materials.

Over the five days you will look at traditional Goldwork techniques and how they can be challenged and explored in experimental ways to give a contemporary feel to your work.

There is no kit for this class and this represents an ideal opportunity to use your own stash of metal threads. Some extra threads will be available and students will be advised about the materials they need to gather in advance.
