This class is part of the RSN International Summer School 2024

This is an in person  class and takes place at The Sayre School, Lexington, Kentucky, USA  The class runs over five days  from Monday 22 -Friday 26   July 2024: 10am -4pm (EDT).

This is the next design inspired by one of the stars of the Royal School of
Needlework collection, the 4 panelled crewelwork room screen. The screen has been a source of inspiration for RSN students for many years and is particularly notable for its long and short stitching and trellis work. It is worked on linen twill fabric using crewel wools in many colours, and each panel features a tree of life design with a beautiful bird.

Our design has a stunning bird similar to the one that features in fourth panel of the original screen. He is surrounded by flowers and leaves that echo those in the other panels, and is worked on linen twill using Appletons crewel wools. This the ideal piece if you want to perfect your long and short stitch as this stitch is used most often within the design, but you’ll also cover trellis, whipped chain, stem stitch, fishbone, closed fly, french knots and bullion knots. Suitable for intermediate and advanced stitchers, as well as adventurous beginners.

Your kit contains all the necessary materials but you will need an 18 inch slate frame/Hand Rotating roller frame that is 45cm x 30cm or larger. If you prefer you can use a 10" ring frame instead. It would be useful to have a pencil and paper in case you wish to take extra notes and you will also need something to support the frame so both hands are free to stitch (for those taking the online class). It would be helpful for students to frame up their fabric beforehand if taking the online class. In can be done during the first lesson. Embroidery scissors and tissue paper to protect your work will also be required.

You can explore many more stitches on the RSN Stitch Bank.
