This class is part of the RSN International Summer School 2024

This is an in-person class (with remote teaching) and takes place at Sayre School, Lexington, Kentucky, USA. The class runs over three days from Wednesday 24 to Friday 26 July 2024, at 10am-4pm local time (EST).

This class is a first with Nicola teaching remotely from her base in the UK and RSN Tutor Sonia Lee with you in the classroom to help and support - a unique hybrid learning experience!

This beautiful project was designed by Nicola, specifically  to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Royal School of Needlework in 2022.

Myrtle Blossom is inspired by a watercolour held in the school’s archive, painted by artist Mary Gemmell who worked as a designer for the school in the 1870s.

Aimed at intermediate to advanced embroiderers, the project features Crewel Work and Surface Stitches, including Split Stitch, Long and Short Shading, Satin Stitch, Stem Stitch, Chain Stitch, Couching, French Knots and Velvet Stitch.

Whipped Back Stitch is a focal stitch in the design and has been sponsored by Nicola in the RSN Stitch Bank.

Myrtle Blossom has been created on linen twill with Appletons Crewel Wool, DMC perle and stranded cotton, Au Ver à Soie and Kreinik metallic threads.

There will be plenty of opportunity during the class to ask the Tutor questions.

The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.

You can explore many more stitches on the RSN Stitch Bank.
